Events of the Recent Past

The PLSC organizes and sponsors various events throughout the year. Some events in the recent past are listed below as information for members, prospective members, and other persons interested in PLSC activities.

These past events are listed with the most recent first.
  • General Meeting and Family Fun Day
    • Date: Saturday, 17 Sept 2022
    • Times: Activities start 10 AM
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse and ranges
    • A family-friendly membership social event
    • Activities will start at 10 AM.
    • Lunch about noon.
    • A general membship meeting will follow lunch.


  • Hunter Education Course
    • Dates: Saturday & Sunday, 10 & 11 Sept 2022
                (Students must attend both days)
    • Times: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse and ranges

  • Training Course: Stop the Bleed
    • Date: Monday, August 29, 2022
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse
    • Time: 6 - 8 PM
    • Description: This course will cover basic first aid for severe bleeding. The course is offered by local medical professionals.
    • Fee: None. The course is free and open to the public.


  • Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute (MDFI) Training Classes
    • Dates: Saturday, July 30, and/or Sunday, July 31
    • Times: 9 AM to 7 PM both days
    • Location: PLSC Ranges and Clubhouse
    • Presentation: MDFI is a Michigan-based professional instructional organization that provides sound and effective training to create citizens that are competent and confident in their chosen defensive disciplines.
    • Description: MDFI will present a weekend of pistol training classes using facilities provided by PLSC, the host club. Two different classes will be offered, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. The classes are open to the general public as well as members of the PLSC.


  • Range Work Bee - Spring 2022
    • Date: May 21, 2022, Saturday
    • Time: 10:00 AM until early afternoon
    • Location: PLSC Ranges and Clubhouse
    • As many volunteers as possible are needed. There is plenty of work to be done.

  • Membership Meeitng and Annual Business Meeting of the PLSC
    • Date: Wednesday, March 16, 2022
    • Location: Rock House | Grill & Tavern - Mine Shaft
    • Time: 6 PM - Social Hour & Dinner
               7 PM - Annual meeting

      3. Open discussion


  • Deer Rifle Sight-In Day
    • Date: Saturday, October 30, 2021
    • Time: Range opens at 11 am. Assistance and use of supplied sighting-in equipment furnished until 3 pm.
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse and rifle range.
    • Public is welcome. Club grounds will be open to both members and non-members.
    • Lunch (free) will be available at the club at noon. .
    • Participants are encouraged to invite other persons to the event.

  • PLSC Concealed Pistol License Class (MCRGO)
    • Date: 9 October 2021, Saturday
    • Time: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse and Pistol Pit
    • Bring: Handgun, 100 rounds ammo, eye & ear protection, lunch, notebook, and pen
    • Cost: $125, cash or check

  • Family Fun Day
    • Date: Saturday, August 21, 2021
    • Location: PLSC clubhouse and ranges
    • Time: 10 am to 12:30 pm
    • Activities: We will have a Dino shoot for BB and pellet rifles, 22LR steel target shoot for rifles, and a clay pigeon shoot at the shotgun range. We will have a couple of BB guns, a pellet gun, and .22 rifles on hand. You may bring your own as well. The club will supply BB's, .177 pellets, .22LR ctgs, and 12 and 20 gauge shot shells. Please bring your own eye and hearing protection.
    • Lunch: A picnic style lunch will be served during the event.


  • Personal Protection in the Home - NRA Course

    • 2019 Dates: July 26 & 27, Friday & Saturday
    • Times:  Friday 6-9 pm, Saturday, 9-5
    • Location: PLSC Clubhouse and ranges.
    • Description: This course satisfies training requirements for a Michigan Concealed Pistol License.
    • Registration: Persons taking the course must register through the NRA Training web page: NRA page for PLSC course.
    • Information: The NRA page provides specific and detailed information about fees, fee payment procedures, contact information, etc.
    • Fee: $125. (2019 PLSC members qualify for a $25 discount.)
    • Deposit: After registering on the NRA website, send the $30 deposit to:

    • Note: The course is a fund-raiser for the Portage Lake Sportsmen's Club.
